Frequently Asked Question

Welcome to our FAQ page! Here, you'll find answers to common questions about psychotherapy and our services. If you have additional questions or need more information, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.

1. What is psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is a form of treatment for emotional, psychological, and behavioral concerns. It involves talking with a licensed therapist to explore feelings, thoughts, and behaviors in a safe, confidential setting. The goal of therapy is to help you understand and manage difficult emotions, overcome challenges, and improve mental well-being.

2. How do I know if psychotherapy is right for me?

If you're feeling overwhelmed, stressed, anxious, or struggling with emotional or behavioral challenges, psychotherapy can help. Whether you're dealing with a specific issue (such as depression, trauma, or relationship difficulties) or just want to improve your overall mental health, therapy provides tools and support for personal growth and healing. If you're unsure, it's a good idea to schedule an initial consultation to discuss your concerns.

3. What happens during a therapy session?

In a typical therapy session, you and your therapist will talk about your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Sessions may focus on past events, current struggles, or future goals. Depending on the therapeutic approach, your therapist might use different techniques to help you explore your emotions, develop coping strategies, and work through any difficulties. The sessions are meant to be collaborative, where you and your therapist work together toward your goals.

4. How long does therapy take?

The duration of therapy depends on the nature of the issue and your individual goals. Some people may benefit from a few sessions, while others might engage in therapy for several months or even longer. Your therapist will work with you to establish a treatment plan and regularly assess your progress.

5. How often are therapy sessions?

Therapy sessions are typically scheduled weekly or bi-weekly. However, the frequency of sessions can vary depending on your needs and the therapist's recommendations. Some clients may begin with weekly sessions and later switch to less frequent visits as they make progress.

6. What types of therapy do you offer?

We offer a variety of evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including:

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): Emphasizes emotional regulation, mindfulness, and interpersonal skills

  • Psychodynamic Therapy: Explores unconscious patterns and past experiences that influence present behavior

  • Trauma-Focused Therapy: Specifically designed to help individuals heal from past trauma

  • Narrative Therapy: helps individuals reframe and rewrite their personal stories, empowering them to separate from problems and create more meaningful, empowering narratives about their lives

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS): Focuses on understanding and integrating different parts of the self

  • Eco-Somatics: Combines body awareness with ecological consciousness, focusing on how our physical experiences, sensations, and movement are interconnected with the natural environment.

  • Somatic Experiencing (SE): A body-centered approach to healing trauma

Your therapist will help determine the most appropriate approach based on your needs

7. Is therapy confidential?

Yes, therapy is confidential. This means that anything you discuss in your sessions will not be shared with anyone without your permission. However, there are a few exceptions where confidentiality may be breached, such as if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, or if required by law (e.g., in cases of abuse or neglect). Your therapist will explain these exceptions during your first session.

8. Do you accept insurance?

We do not offer direct billing to insurance so please check with your insurance provider to see if you are covered and what the process looks like.

9. How do I prepare for my first session?

Your first session is a chance for you and your therapist to get to know each other. You don't need to bring anything special or prepare extensively. It can be helpful to think about any specific issues or goals you'd like to work on in therapy. Be open and honest during the session, as this will help your therapist understand your needs and create a plan that best supports you.

10. What if I don’t feel like therapy is working?

It’s common to feel frustrated or unsure about progress during therapy. Healing takes time, and sometimes it may feel like you’re not moving forward. If you're feeling stuck, it’s important to communicate openly with your therapist. Together, you can reassess your goals, treatment plan, and approach. Therapy is a collaborative process, and your input is valuable.
